LULAC Scholarship
A scholarship program cosponsored by some 70 LULAC Councils who raise scholarship funds at the grass roots level which are matched nationally by sponsoring corporations. The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), has considered education its number one priority since it was established in 1929. As part of LULAC’s education efforts, the LULAC National Scholarship Fund (LNSF) was established in 1975 to provide scholarships to Hispanic students attending colleges and universities. Under the LNSF program, local LULAC Councils, in partnership with local and national businesses, award scholarships to students in their communities. LNSF is administered by the LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc., a non-profit educational organization established by LULAC to provide educational programs for Hispanics and other youth.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's preeminent organization supporting Hispanic higher education. NAHJ Scholarships: Undergradute and Graduate
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) offers several scholarships through our Rubén Salazar Scholarship Fund program. These scholarships are designed to encourage and assist Latino students pursue careers in journalism. Hispanics remain woefully underrepresented in mainstream U.S. newsrooms. NAHJ offers scholarships to college undergraduates and graduate students pursuing careers as print, photo, broadcast or online journalism. You must plan to attend a college or a university as a full-time student for the entire academic year in order to be eligible for an NAHJ scholarship.

Chronicle of Higher Education Internships Spring/Summer/Fall
Three interns will be hired; we are looking for both undergraduates and recent graduates.
All of the interns will have the same primary responsibilities: reporting and writing daily news articles for The Chronicle's Web site (which usually appear subsequently in print), contributing brief features to the "Short Subjects" section, writing news articles for other sections of the newspaper, and doing research for special projects. There is very little grunt work. Interns who prove themselves as reporters and writers are often asked to write full-length features.
Requirements: Experience writing for publication, either at a student newspaper or a professional publication, is required. Candidates with previous internships and deadline-reporting experience are preferred. Applications must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009. Applications that are late, e-mailed, or faxed will not be considered.

Scripps Howard Internship
D.C. can be a tough place to intern, but with free housing and a stipend, how can you say no? The 2010 Scripps Howard Foundation Semester in Washington Program is accepting applications for spring and summer. Interns report for 10 or 14 weeks on a variety of D.C. news and politics. Position Description:
UNITY is seeking a motivated and dynamic intern with a working knowledge of the journalism industry for 10 – 20 hours per week internship based in its McLean, Virginia office. Successful applicants will be motivated, responsible and self-starters and interested in news media and diversity issues.
The duties for this opportunity include, but are not limited to:
• Updating Web site information, e-newsletters and news stories including but not limited to monitoring and organizing news on media diversity, blogs, podcasts, etc.
• Supporting contact management system for newsletter subscriptions and other communications portals.
• Researching topics that support the UNTY cause such as mass communications and diversity related policies, statistics, facts and information.
• Supporting UNITY advocacy campaigns.
• Maintaining pages on social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and YouTube.
• Writing, editing and proofreading marketing and communications collateral materials.
Candidate must be a quick learner and someone who takes initiative. Candidate should also be resourceful, reliable, detail-oriented and eager to take on new challenges. UNITY is especially interested in applicants with a background in journalism, mass communications, public policy, public relations and/or marketing.
Required skill sets:
• Knowledge of AP Style with strong writing skills.

Duties:
Assignments vary day-to-day. Interns can expect to log tapes, coordinate script, research stories, conduct preliminary interviews, assist during shoots, select footage, perform light clerical duties and assist staff members.
Requirements:
Students who are currently attending an accredited college and have achieved junior or senior status are eligible. Students majoring in journalism, broadcasting or communications are preferred; other majors will be considered. Participants must have good computer skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities and knowledge of current events. A 3.0 GPA or above is recommended. Students must be able to meet the minimum time commitment.
Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship. Students are required to provide official documentation on school letterhead confirming that they will receive credit for the internship. This documentation must be on file prior to start date.
Deadlines:
Fall and spring applicants are accepted on a rolling basis. The summer program selects and assigns students on a first-come, first-served basis; summer applications will not be accepted after February 28 of each year.

Sports Journalism Internships
The 2010 Sports Journalism Institute is a nine-week training and internship program for college students interested in sports journalism careers. The Institute is designed to attract talented students to print journalism through opportunities in sports reporting and editing and enhance racial and gender diversity in sports departments of newspapers nationwide. The program will run from June 4 through Aug. 6, 2010.

IMPORTANT NOTE: NAHJ member Melissa Segura won this scholarship while at Santa Clara Univ. She got a paid internship at Sports Illustrated in New York City and did so well that she eventually became an SI staff writer and still is to this day! AWSM is a good organization.
