Position Description:
UNITY is seeking a motivated and dynamic intern with a working knowledge of the journalism industry for 10 – 20 hours per week internship based in its McLean, Virginia office. Successful applicants will be motivated, responsible and self-starters and interested in news media and diversity issues.
The duties for this opportunity include, but are not limited to:
• Updating Web site information, e-newsletters and news stories including but not limited to monitoring and organizing news on media diversity, blogs, podcasts, etc.
• Supporting contact management system for newsletter subscriptions and other communications portals.
• Researching topics that support the UNTY cause such as mass communications and diversity related policies, statistics, facts and information.
• Supporting UNITY advocacy campaigns.
• Maintaining pages on social networking sites, such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and YouTube.
• Writing, editing and proofreading marketing and communications collateral materials.
Candidate must be a quick learner and someone who takes initiative. Candidate should also be resourceful, reliable, detail-oriented and eager to take on new challenges. UNITY is especially interested in applicants with a background in journalism, mass communications, public policy, public relations and/or marketing.
Required skill sets:
• Knowledge of AP Style with strong writing skills.
• Detail oriented and with excellent proofreading, copyediting and/or research skills.
• Strong multimedia and content management skills.
• Excellent computer skills.

In addition to working with colleges to arrange academic credit, UNITY will offer a monthly stipend to the selected candidate.
